Air Products & Chemicals Hikes Bid for Airgas in "Final Offer" (APD,ARG)

Officials from Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD) are hoping to clinch the firm's "best and final offer" for Airgas, Inc. (NYSE:ARG) by upping its last bid of $65.50 per Airgas share to $70.00 per share.

However, reps from Airgas called the $70.00 offer "grossly inadequate," reports MarketWatch.

A statement from Air Products & Chemicals' chairman and CEO, John McGlade said, "It is time to bring this matter to a conclusion, and we are today making our best and final offer for Airgas. The Air Products board has determined that it is not in the best interests of Air Products shareholders to pursue transaction indefinitely, and Airgas shareholders should be aware that Air Products will not pursue this offer to another Airgas shareholder meeting, whenever it may be held."

Shares of Air Products & Chemicals are trading 2.01% higher at $88.81 on the upped bid, whereas shares of Airgas are trading 6.81% lower at $61.48.
